Tunes of the week #2

Hello lovely folk.  Here are our top tunes, new and old, for this week.  Enjoy!

1. Sparklehorse – Homecoming Queen. It’s a slightly more subdued week at Moogie Wonderland HQ since the news of the death of Mark Linkous. Sparklehorse feature on the Moogie Wonderland decks every now and then and so we’d like to thank Mark for the amazing diverse music he created. So we’ll start off with this beautiful song:

2. Joanna Newsom – In California. The new album by Joanna Newsom is an epic triple disc album…value for money! It’s headed a little bit towards Kate Bush territory, which is not a bad thing at all.

3. Smog – I Feel Like The Mother Of The World. Well, apparently Joanna Newsom’s new album was influenced by her break up with Bill Callahan [who I saw last year while I was sitting on a pew sipping a cup of tea…bliss!], so we better give out some Smog action. Be sure to check out my personal fav “Dress Sexy At My Funeral” another time.

4. Super Furry Animals – God! Show Me Magic. Time to lighten the mood into more of our ‘clubnight’ territory – here’s a bit of an old Moogie Wonderland anthem.

5. The Postmarks – No One Said This Would Be Easy. Bit of a newbie band this – a little bit like Gloss and a bit of Black Box Recorder / spy soundtrack .

6. Broken Bells – The High Road. We like it when genres meet in a haze of loveliness as it means we get to create new genres, which generally involves confusing people and ourselves. This is summery lo-fi synth pop.
