Youth Workshops: Electronic Music & Live Visuals

What

Come and learn how to create dreamy electronic sounds or mind-blowing visuals at these sessions for young people at Penryn Temperance Hall. Ages 13-17.

When

9 Nov 2024

Come and explore the mesmerizing world of electronic music and live visuals! Sign up to one or more of our hands-on workshops (for ages 13 to 17) at Penryn Temperance Hall to learn how to create entrancing electronic music using modular synths, or generate stunning visuals on TouchDesigner. Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, our workshop leaders will guide you through the process. There are six spaces per workshop, and booking is essential – don’t miss out!

There will be workshops on using modular synths, which use electronic processes to make music – using oscillators, sequencers, filters and more. Synths have been used across genres for decades, appearing on tracks by some of the world’s biggest artists, from Aphex Twin to Charli XCX. You’ll be using state-of-the-art equipment, but we’ll also show you free software that you can use which is a standard for many professional touring musicians. These will be led by experienced touring musicians Matt Ashdown and Martin Pease. Please only sign up for one modular synth workshop.

The live visual programming workshops with artist Jess Pemberton will show you how to create live visuals for events, concerts, or digital art where you will have an introduction to TouchDesigner and explore visual performance. There are two workshop options (abstract or 3D). TouchDesigner is free and accessible node-based programming software with many transferable skills and uses across industries. If you want to see if TouchDesigner is for you, then this is a great opportunity to have a go and find a path to get started with resources to take home to continue your journey.

The workshops are run by Moogie Wonderland and provided by an experienced team with appropriate safeguarding training (Level 3) and DBS checks in place. This event has been funded by Penryn Town Council.
